The body of a partially naked woman believed to have been murdered, was discovered by a group of boys playing soccer.
The group of boys were getting their kicks in at the quarry near Bo-Kaap when they stumbled upon the lifeless body. According to the Cape Town Central Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson, Marc Truss, it appeared as if the woman had been attacked, with her dress pulled over her head.
The Daily Voice confirmed that the body was found on Strand Street towards High-Level Road, above the squatter camp, on Monday at bout 5PM.
“They unfortunately found a woman who we initially thought had fallen off the mountain but it appears it was something else.
“We are waiting for the police for further information. We now think that the woman died by probably gender-based violence and probably trauma to the head,” said Truss.
The police said they were not investigating murder, as they awaited the autopsy. Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said: “Cape Town Central police registered an inquest for investigation after the body of an unknown female was found on Monday. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”

Authorities said she was a black lady, aged between 30 and 35, adding that “Unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries from the abuse. That is not acceptable.”
The dissonance between admitting an abusive situation likely led to her death and not following through with a case of murder is striking. It is, sadly, typical for South African authorities to take the plight of black female bodies less seriously than others.
Hopefully, if it turns out she didn’t merely fall or something, this woman gets the justice she deserves with the police opening up a proper case and barring the culprit for life.
