New Zealand rugby and boxing icon, Sonny Bill Williams, has revealed a shocking new career move this week.
The former All Black has been named the inaugural Pro-Chancellor of Albukhary International University (AIU), a role that will see him “champion the institution’s mission to produce globally competitive and socially responsible” graduates.
The announcement is a remarkable twist for someone who left school at just 14 and made his mark on the world in the violent arenas of boxing and rugby, but then again, Sonny always had a trick or two up his sleeve.
Sonny thanked AIU’s founder, Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, and the Board of Governors in a proud Instagram post, adding that he’s eager to meet with students in person next month.
“For someone who dropped out of school at 14 and was given a chance to change my life through sports, this appointment is a proud privilege to be part of a university that does the same through education.”
Albukhary International University seemed equally chuffed to have him, highlighting how Williams’ involvement will “enhance the university’s vision of fostering a transformative educational environment where values-driven leadership meets academic excellence.”
Sweet as.

Yeah, we might not have seen that one coming, but well done to him. If his performance in the ring and on the field is anything to go by, the kids have a few things to learn from the ex-All-Black.
