At only 16 years old, Cape Town City’s rising teenage star, Emile Witbooi, has already caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in the English Premier League
The youngster’s star is so bright that last week, he travelled to England for a one-month evaluation with Chelsea’s under-18 team.
It is a case of the apple not falling far from the tree though as Emile is the son of former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Surprise Ralani and has been outstanding for Cape Town City’s reserve team ever since he joined in January.
While Emile is at Chelsea, Cape Town City Head of Development and Recruitment, Grant Veitch, revealed that Manchester City are also monitoring the youngster.

“I’ve met with recruitment guys at Wolves, at Leicester, at Southampton. I’ve tried to get about because I think there’s a big interest in African talent now, like a big, big interest, especially with clubs that have multi-club associations or groups,” Veitch told Soccer Laduma.
“There is some interest from Man City as well for Emile. There’s interest from other big clubs, but I think with Chelsea they were the first people to really put money where their mouth is. I mean, everything was all expenses paid for both me and Emile for the month.”
Local football fans have praised the young star for his impressive performances for South Africa’s under-15 and under-20 squads, and given Veitch’s updates since Witbooi’s transfer to Chelsea, it is quite likely that the soccer prodigy will soon find a home at the famed London club.
Witbooi is expected to return to South Africa in December to resume playing for Cape Town City as he waits for a response from Chelsea.
