It’s not just in corporate that staff parties get a little bit wild.
Buckingham Palace was forced to speak out after a staff Christmas party ‘spiralled out of control’, eventually leading to someone being arrested. Guess that’s what happens when you employ commoners.
A Palace employee believed to be a housemaid, allegedly threw a punch at the manager of an All Bar One and smashed glasses at the Christmas party for staffers at the venue in Victoria Street, central London.
Police were called in to calm the situation down. Buckingham Palace was quick to point out that the staff party occurred ‘outside of the workplace’, but they confirmed that the incident would be investigated. Well, it’s not like the King would allow a staff party in the royal ballroom.
“We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Household staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace.
“While this was an informal social gathering, not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated, with a robust disciplinary process followed in relation to individual staff and appropriate action taken.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly before being released after being given a penalty notice.
In case you were thinking of getting a bit nutty at your office Christmas party, it is worth remembering that you can get fired if you vibe too much in front of your managers, or CEO.
Unless they’re doing Gangnam Style in their underwear, in which case you’d probably just get a warning.
