It’s Inauguration Day For Trump – Where To Watch It Live

Depending on which news source you trust, today is either the beginning of the end for the US, or the dawn of a new and better America. Whichever way it goes, the next few years are going to be a weird trip.

Well, it is Inauguration Day For Trump as he returns to power to enact his vision for America after leaving his office in shame four years ago.

Trump will become the nation’s 47th president at noon today (19:00 SA Time), completing a rather remarkable four-year fightback after he left Washington as a pariah at the end of his first term. JD Vance will be stepping up next to Trump to become its 50th vice president – not bad for a guy who was only elected to the Senate in 2022.

The day is already unusual as expected cold weather in Washington will see Trump take the oath of office inside the US Capitol, the first time the event has been held inside since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985. Trump described Monday’s conditions as “dangerous” and added that he did not “want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way.”

“I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather.”

The relatively small area inside the US Capitol will deprive Trump of the overflowing crowd he’d have wanted on the Mall. It will also likely cause jockeying among dignitaries and lawmakers to be able to witness Trump’s swearing-in personally.

Trump is going to waste no time once he gets the keys to the Oval Office and has said he will take steps to ‘immediately’ kick off his agenda. With executive actions on immigration enforcement expected to be first on the agenda, many foreigners are sweating bullets, and according to some publications, gay couples are already running to the courts to tie the knot before the new administration, seen by some as anti-everything comes into effect.

Throughout the 2024 campaign, Trump vowed to seek retribution against his opponents and political enemies, so those who opposed him will be watching the opening hours of his second administration very closely to see if they need to run to Canada or Mexico, or follow Ellen to England.

The noise around the US elections has been deafening, and depending on which news outlet you follow, today is either the beginning of the end for the US we all know or the dawn of a new and better America. Either way, the next few years are going to be a weird trip.
