Few interviewers allow their guests to hang themselves as well as Louis Theroux, so it was a treat to see him get bad boy Armie Hammer in the podcast Hotseat.
Hammer has had it rough the last few years after Hollywood ostracised him following allegations of predatory sexual behaviour. He denies this, but there’s a creepy moment where he admits to having treated people “like bags of dope with skin on them” that makes your skin crawl a bit. Something’s not lekker with that guy.
Hammer was accused of rape and physically abusive behaviour in 2021 by a woman, known as Effie, who claimed he raped her in 2017. She shared screenshots of graphic texts allegedly sent by Hammer, which included one where the actor appeared to declare himself a cannibal.
At least two other women subsequently came forward with accusations of sexual coercion and emotional abuse from Hammer between 2017 and 2020, including ex-girlfriend Paige Lorenze.
Louis also delves into Hammer’s “public shaming, #metoo, cannibalism, and being the scion of a Succession-like political dynasty”.
