A Yellow Level 4 warning has been issued for the Western Cape after South African Weather Service said they are anticipating damaging winds until Friday.
South-easterly gusts of up to 70 km/h, with peaks reaching up to 90 km/h specifically between Saldanha and Plettenberg Bay, are expected.
The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management has emphasised the potential impacts of this weather phenomenon, saying that people need to “take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings and homes.”
This would entail putting away garden furniture and ensuring everything else that can become a flying projectile is strapped down tight.

Sonica Lategan, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management, said, “With the winds being as potent as they are, the dry conditions in many areas could lead to alarming fire behaviour.” Folks who live near fire-prone areas are urged to be vigilant.
Don’t make outdoor fires in the wind, especially if you live close to nature or the mountain. Windy conditions mean that any runaway fires could easily become major blazes.
The marine community is also urged to be careful out there as smaller boats are likely to have trouble navigating at sea due to the turbulent wind conditions. Owners have been “strongly advised to seek shelter and avoid venturing onto open waters” while the wind is this intense.

Stay safe, people.
