Horror fans and clingy couples will be equally delighted and nauseated by the latest horror film offering from writer/director Michael Shanks.
Together stars real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco as fictional couple Millie and Tim, who have just made the big decision to move to the countryside. But what should have been an idyllic, fresh start quickly devolves into a body horror nightmare all about codependency.
The trailer starts out with the standard ‘our relationship is stagnant’ vibe – Millie and Tim sleep in different rooms, he tells her he loves her, but she just responds with a flaccid “okay.” But everything quickly dissolves into weirdness when their lips melt together and their eyelashes and eyelids tangle during a tender moment…
From that point onwards, shit gets really weird as Millie channels the The Exorcist with a painful backbend, then levitates and slams against a door while Tim gets dragged into a breathing cave with videotapes of what appears to be an occult ritual showing you that their troubles are bigger than just a lack of cuddles.
But it’s the scene where the two seem to be intimately melted together, and Millie pulls out an electric saw, that tells you all you need to know about this upcoming freakshow.
It’s definitely not a date night film, and we can’t wait.
Together hits theatres on July 30.
