The Woodlands community in Mitchells Plain are calling on police to do a “thorough investigation” after a teenager was allegedly tricked to drink acid at a local butchery.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after the 17-year-old boy was allegedly tricked into drinking drain acid at Mitchells Butchery in Woodlands. The teenager suffered damage to his stomach and oesophagus as a result of drinking the acid, and is in a stable condition in the hospital after being treated in an intensive care unit.
The teen, who is a casual worker at Mitchells Butchery in Woodlands, allegedly drank the acid from a cold drink bottle found in a fridge at the establishment on Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after the incident, an angry mob of residents wanted to torch the butchery, but local community leaders stepped in to calm the situation.
“People wanted to burn this place down, and the community stood together and said: ‘You know the building did nothing, absolutely nothing to nobody. It’s part of our community and we need to look after our community assets.'”
The owners of the butchery have elected not to comment, and community leaders have urged angry residents not to loot the premises while the investigation is underway.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed who was responsible for the alleged prank.
