It’s sweet revenge for Tyla after Nickelodeon announced that the Grammy-winning superstar will host the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this June in California.
Tyla may have lost out to Taylor Swift at last year’s Kids’ Choice Awards, but Swift is sooo 2024, and this year Tyla gets the whole thing.
This year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which celebrate fan-favourites across movies, TV, music, sports, and more, are set to take place on 21 June, from the iconic Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
This is yet another milestone for Tyla as she continues her seemingly unstoppable rise. Earlier this month, she dropped her latest single “Bliss,” adding to a run of record-breaking success. Her 2023 hit “Water” not only earned her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance but also made her the highest-charting African female soloist on the Billboard Hot 100 with a two-times-platinum certification.
She achieved similar success on the Billboard 200 with her self-titled debut album TYLA, released in March 2024. The album charted 12 singles on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats chart, including “Water”, which also became the first-ever song by an African artist to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
This year’s list of Kids’ Choice Award nominees include Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar, who lead with four nods each, while Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, and Jelly Roll follow closely behind with three nominations apiece.
Big names galore, but everyone knows it’ll be Tayla’s show.
