President Ramaphosa has called in the heavyweights for his scheduled talks with President Donald Trump at the White House this afternoon.
Ramaphosa hopes to “reset relations” with the US following protracted tensions between the two countries, and calling in South Africa’s richest man, Johann Rupert, and best-loved golfers, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen, is a genius move.
Ernie can soften up the golf-loving Trump with tales from the tee, while Johann Rupert will add much-needed gravitas to our delegation in the hostile halls of American power.
Johann Rupert has been credited for facilitating talks between President Cyril Ramaphosa and Donald Trump in the past, so hopefully the meeting will go better than the uitkak-session Zelensky endured recently.
Trump will be joined by his vice president JD Vance, secretary of defence Pete Hegseth and Dr Massaid Bolous, a senior advisor on Africa and Middle East affairs. Christopher Landau, who recently welcomed the Afrikaner refugees, will also be in attendance, so expect that whole business to be discussed as well.
Also on list of backup singers was Elon Musk, who is reported to have had earlier talks with the South African government about the possibility of working around the country’s BEE laws in order to bring Starlink to his ex-countrymen.
Newzroom Africa aired a chat with Musk where he got all worked up about South Africa’s racist laws, which he called “utterly wrong”.
