Ramaphosa Goes Viral After Tying Child’s Shoelace In Canal Walk [Video]

Politics aside, we'll miss Ramaphosa when he goes into the post-presidential wilderness.

It’s not everyone who can claim the President of South Africa tied their shoelaces.

President Cyril Ramaphosa won over South African hearts in Canal Walk recently after tying a little girl’s shoelaces after an unexpected photo op.

The footage shows the president casually visiting a shopping mall (possibly shopping for couches?) when excited locals gathered to meet him. Ramaphosa warmly invited the people to take photos with him, cheerfully calling out for “the young ones and the old ones!” to join in, leading to many a little one lining up for their picture with the president.

While smiling for a photo with one young girl, the President noticed her shoelace was untied, and in a heartbeat, Ramaphosa knelt and tied the little girl’s shoelace for her, prompting “Awwws” from the entire crowd. The video soon went viral, and now the internet is awwing as well.

You’ve got to love this man, we just can’t see any other president tying a kid’s shoelaces in public like that, or laughing when you call him Cupcake.
