A video message by Campbell Wilson, chief executive of Air India, has sparked an online backlash after viewers pointed out its striking similarity to a statement made by the head of American Airlines, Robert Isom, following a deadly crash in Washington just months earlier.
People are now accusing Wilson of “lacking originality and empathy”, with many suggesting that the airlines have now simply resorted to tone-deaf and insincere cookie-cutter responses in the wake of these tragedies.
The message’s wording, tone, and structure were so closely aligned with the American Airlines address that some industry watchers speculated it may have been modelled directly on it, raising questions about “crisis communication protocols and authenticity” in moments of public mourning.
Truth be told, this feels very much like they used the same prompts on ChatGPT.
Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran has since commented about the accusations, saying people needed to concentrate on “the spirit of what he said, we should take at this moment the matter that he has conveyed”.
As reported by Mint, he added: “I have not analysed it word by word, but this is something we will look into.”
