The Ritz-Carlton is set to pimp Kenya’s safari market with the opening of its first luxury safari camp in the country.

Scheduled for August 2025, The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp will bring the luxury brand’s signature refined hospitality to the heart of the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve.

Set on the banks of the Sand River near the Kenya-Tanzania border, the reserve boasts the Big Five and over 500 bird species, making it a year-round haven for unforgettable wildlife encounters. Even more exciting, the exclusive camp offers front-row seats to one of Africa’s most breathtaking natural events – the Great Migration.

From July to October, millions of wildebeest and zebra make their chaotic crossing between the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search of greener pastures, only now you get to witness the power of the natural world in pampered luxury.

“The Masai Mara is one of the most spectacular destinations in the world, and we look forward to introducing The Ritz-Carlton’s first safari experience and signature hospitality to this extraordinary setting,” said Helen Leighton, vice president, luxury brands, EMEA.

“Each guest will enjoy a bespoke adventure based on their ultimate safari. From breathtaking wildlife encounters to personalised service in the heart of the savannah, every moment is designed to inspire, leaving guests with a renewed sense of wonder that will stay with them long after they leave.”

Blending seamlessly into its lush surroundings, the camp will feature 20 expansive tented suites, starting from 163 square metres, perched among the treetops with sweeping views of the Sand River, golden savannahs and distant acacia-dotted horizons.

The camp offers a range of immersive experiences, including ‘The Call of Dusk’ — a sunset ritual featuring Maasai traditions, dance, storytelling, and Kenyan tea. Guests can enjoy a photographic studio with professional Canon gear and expert guidance, as well as a wellness centre inspired by local healing practices, complete with a gym and savannah-view pool.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the Masai Mara Camp will run on solar power, harvest rainwater, and use locally sourced materials. Guests will also be hosted by Maasai “Encholiek”, a traditional concept of personal service, adding a layer of cultural richness to the experience.

The camp is accessible via a 45-minute flight or a five-hour drive from Nairobi. If seeing the Great Migration is on your bucket list, or you just need a vacation, this seems like the perfect way to enjoy Africa.
