Every year, DJ Earworm releases an epic mix of the top Billboard tracks for that year’s pop tracks. This is known as the “United State of Pop”, and 2011’s version is nothing short of incredible. This year sees no less than 25 songs mashed together, in what is being called “World Go Boom”. Full video and track listing after the jump.

Due to the proliferation of easy-to-use software and affordable digital equipment, electronic music is often side-lined as a sub-par musical genre, lacking complexity and technical prowess. This video for C2C’s “F.U.Y.A.” demonstrates exactly how far from the truth that is.
The 2000s haven’t been kind to the US music business, with year on year shrinkage in sales since Y2K leading to the longest slump this side of the Second World War. In 2011, three artists managed to turn the slide around, while many others floundered in mediocre sales. Care to guess who?
Peace and quiet can come at a premium, especially if you live and work in a busy urban environment. However, a new study shows that the biggest actual threat to our hearing is one we deliberately expose ourselves to every day.
Die Antwoord will drop their second album on 7 February. Called “TEN$ION”, the LP will be released on their own label, ZEF REKORDZ. The cover has been revealed and features an angel-winged, demonic-faced Yolandi Vi$$er eating what appears to be a human heart. See this graphic image after the jump.
Score one for creepy technology. Vocaloid, a voice-synthesis brand owned by Yamaha, has come up with a process by which to “resurrect” any singer’s voice for use in synthesized songs, without requiring the vocalist to build up a painstaking voice library first – so they could be doing that Kurt Cobain/Michael Jackson duet album pretty soon.
I’ve been holding this footage back from you but am now publishing it as an early Christmas gift for all of you. This is literally one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. You are about to witness footage of a guy called Gabriel Shai who is a covers artist on the scene in […]
After being arrested at a punk rock concert in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, enthusiasts were forced to have their heads shaved, “cleanse” themselves in a lake, change their clothes and pray – because being a punk rocker in parts of Indonesia soils the Islamic image they want to uphold.
It’s always nice when researchers employing a loosely scientific method produce results you were more or less expecting. Folks at the University of Portsmouth have determined that loud music makes people want to drink alcohol in greater quantities and at a much faster rate because the music makes it taste sweeter. Science!
Last week, Justin Bieber almost ruined the collective festive cheer of the entire world by announcing he was working on a dubstep album, but thankfully it’s still the season for giving, and a handful of awesome classic rock outfits have announced their plans to tour SA in 2012, effectively cancelling out the horror aftershocks of the Lesbieber’s awful, awful news.
Somewhat controversial, is old Jack Parow’s latest single entitled ‘Eksie Ou’ off his new album. It seems our boy is at it again, having a go at a number Cape Town institutions and people. From gym bunnies and hipsters to Kauai and Ice Models, nobody is safe from the sharp tongue of Parow’s favourite son. […]
So Jack Parow appeared out of nowhere at the 2oceansvibe Media compound last week, sporting a new afro. I can’t be absolutely certain, but I have a feeling his new look could be defined as “zef.” We flew radio control helicopters around The Compound for a while, during which time he explained to me that […]
Wow, who would have thought MTV would ban a music video by Duran Duran! The new music video, Girl Panic!, which stars supermodels (as you do) performing as the band, has been released some 30 years after another music video of theirs (also starring supermodels) Girls On Film suffered similar controversy in 1981. I was […]
Hey Geronimo is a relatively unknown indie band in Australia, but they’ve been getting some global props as their latest music video goes viral. In the video for single “Why Don’t We Do Something?”, the band recreates some of iPhone’s most popular games in real life, including Angry Birds, Plants Vs. Zombies, Flight Control, Cut The Rope and Fruit Ninja.
In a glowing display of Christian charity and respect for others, a religious blog in America, Christians For A Moral America, has issued a statement to its followers via Twitter, calling on them to pray for pop singer, George Michael’s death.
Back in the day, people used to send each other messages using something they called the telegram. For the singing telegram, a real person actually used to call you up or come to your home and sing to you. Money transfer giant, Western Union, is bringing the singing telegram back and plans to get users involved: karaoke-style.
Oh dear lady. Here’s a little bit of advice to you Miley: When you’re at your 19th birthday party, chances are there’s someone there filming you, waiting to give something to the tabloids. Hence, don’t say anything stupid.
The other day I bought Icky Thump, almost begrudgingly. I didn’t think it would be that good. It didn’t get the commercial attention (by that I mean our radio stations only played the single Icky Thump off it) of albums like Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan, leading me to think that perhaps it was a bit of a dud. If you haven’t bought the last album – do. It really is that good.
The Brothers Streep were recently seen on Idols, where they poked a bit of fun at some of the show’s more controversial moments and characters. And before that they performed live for Anna Paquin on the Graham Norton show. This time they tackle the ANC’s steamrolling of the Protection of Information Bill in parliament this week. Check out “The Secrecy Bill” after the jump.
If you’re a legendary aging rock star who has fallen out with his band mates… or a talented soul singer whose career has taken a nose-dive… or a thoroughbred reggae artist who produced an amazing album a few years ago but hasn’t been able to follow it up… or if your band was a huge […]
In what can only be described as glaringly obvious, Rolling Stone Magazine (which launched locally this month) has declared Jimi Hendrix to be the greatest guitarist of all time. I don’t think there will be too many arguments here.
Earlier this year, Liam Gallagher sued his brother, Noel after he (Noel) stated in a press conference that Liam pulled out of a headline show at the V festival in England due to a hangover. He later dropped the suit, but he now appears to have sobered up and the two are back at it again.
On Saturday night, someone held up a picture of Kurt Cobain at a Courtney Love concert. She saw it and went into a tirade about having to live with both Kurt’s ghost and his kid every day of her life. She then zapped the audience and left the stage – only returning after the crowd chanted: “The Foo Fighters are gay!” Video after the jump.
If you’re bad at choosing both your music and your beverage, drinkify.org will help ease the burden by telling you which drinks go best with your music of choice. And if this isn’t what the internet was made for, well then I have been mislead.
Afrikaans zef rap sensation, Die Antwoord, have released a statement on their website indicating that they have parted ways with their record company, Interscope – and that’s putting it diplomatically.
World famous guitarist, Pete Townshend, of one of the greatest rock bands ever, The Who, has taken Halloween as the perfect opportunity to make a statement. He has lashed out at Apple, calling their model of selling music – iTunes – “a vampire.”
Watch self-described “crazy Xhosa white boy,” Quite A White Ou in the latest Taxijam, making a short taxi ride from Kloof Street down town so much greater with Ndingumlungu.
I’m just going to kick off the article with a reminder picture I took in 2004, of everybody’s favourite SA band, Goldfish. Please enjoy Dom & Dave quietly dominating an entire corner at Baraza – a Camps Bay bar which subsequently closed down. This was back in the day when Blues restaurant was actually good. […]
Prepare yourselves. This year may be the first time that we won’t be confronted by Boney M when grabbing that last minute gift as we rush through the V&A in mid-December. So far, two Christmas albums have already been released by prominent pop stars, and there’s more to come.
That famous band that still gets pronounced awkwardly, Die Antwoord, is preparing to release a follow-up to their 2010 debut, $0$. They announced as much in an interview with Spin, saying that the new album – named Tension – is scheduled for a January 2012 release; they’ve also released the names of a couple of new tracks.
