Sports Wrap with Chowgaps + TV Times

I finally grew tired of pimple-faced teenagers pestering me about why I hadn’t joined Twitface yet. So yesterday I sat down and opened my MyTube web browser and decided it was time to hunker down for a month to learn how to work this seemingly silly but – according to my Google machine – financially brilliant concept.

The reality of it all is that I was starting to feel left out and rather inept. Even Os Du Rand is on Twitter. Scouts honour. His latest message to the world, well, more specifically, via the world to Morne Steyn is: @mornesteyn, ‘sterkte vir Sat geniet die game, julle moet baljaar!’ Classic! (I added the punctuation). You cannot even find this level of quality entertainment in moderately priced men’s clubs in Thailand! Through this phenomenon and some social outcast’s – probably with very thick glasses – brilliance, I’ve managed to unearth that there is something called Osfees! www.osfees.co.za. It’s living proof that there is actually something that goes on in the Free State. Only a few people in the world could pull off naming a festival after themselves. No wonder he’s on Twatter.

It doesn’t stop there tho. See what I did there – ‘tho’ – it’s appaz an acceptable twittabbreviation. Gurthro Steenkamp is also involved (@gurthro) as well as El Capitano John Smit (@johnsmit123). In fact, South Africa seems to boast a seriously tech-savvy front-row contingent. After analysing a few tweets I’ve been able to work out that our front rowers seem to be rather cultured, whereas all the loose forwards seem to do is play X-box, drink beer, followed by more x-box. I’m not opposed to this behaviour. It’s very NFL 2008.

I found some other interesting twits; (or twats or tweets, I’m not sure yet).

@tigerwoods – ‘holes played:13 balls lost: 0’

@elin4tiger – ‘what’s one billion divided by two? Darn I wish I’d taken maths at model school’

@rasdumisani – ‘no lyrics no cry!’

The SA Open gets underway today at Pearl Valley. My learned colleague Blades (@hughbladen) once again went where no journalist dares to and gave Dale Hayes a call. Check it out at www.overtohugh.co.za.

Check out my picks for the weekend,

Love Chowgaps (@chowgaps)
