See how I avoided the Beatles reference in the title? Sir Richard Branson, known for doing fancy things with money and vehicles, yesterday launched Virgin Oceanic, which aims to explore “the last frontiers of our own Blue Planet: the very bottom of our seas.” So now is the right time to get into the submarine business.
The project is set up to partner with Google to help in the mapping of previously uncharted bits of ocean, and presumably make money out of them:
“Using their mapping technology, Google hopes to chronicle the dives as they happen and share discoveries, footage and record breaking achievements with the world.”
The whole project is pretty extensively covered over at BoingBoing, but suffice it to say that there is a submarine and a catamaran involved.
