Pope Benedict XVI has shut down a famous Monastery in Rome, run by a former nightclub dancing nun. The monastery, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, holds some of the most precious relics in the Church, but the Pope has cut the partying short.
Italian newspapers have reported that the community of Cistercian monks based at the church for over five-hundred years are being shipped out due to the scandalous behaviour at the monastery.
The “Friends of Santa Croce” were an aristocratic bunch that threw parties that even saw some nuns dancing around at the altar. There was even a video doing the rounds of a former disco dancer, now nun, traipsing around with a crucifix. Classy Classy.
The abbey’s abbot, Simone Fioraso, an over-the-top ex-Milan fashion designer, was already moved out two years ago.
There has been a chapel at Santa Croce in Gerusalemme since the fourth century, but it seems all good parties must come to an end.
