A user at reddit.com promised that he’d put up a billboard in response to Harold Camping’s failed billboard campaign that claimed the rapture was on its way. The billboard reads: “That was awkward”. Somewhat of an understatement I think.
The digital billboard, put up near interstate 40 in North Carolina, reads: “That was awkward” and included a verse from Matthew 24:36 stating “No one knows the day or the hour…”.
The billboard came into being as a result of a discussion following a post by user xtcg123 entitled: “Thinking of renting a billboard on May 22. Thoughts?”. The thread received over 1508 comments with suggestions about the billboard.
Once the billboard had gone up the user explained his motivation on reddit:
The point here…is that if you’re going to use any source (in this case, the Bible) to promote an agenda, you can’t just leave out the part that completely goes against what you have just “guaranteed”.
