Members of “hacktivist” group Anonymous have denied that they’re planning an attack on Facebook, in spite of a video claiming to speak for the group that has declared that the social network will be brought down on January 28th. This would be the second fake Anonymous threat in some months.
The video claims the date for the attack is January 28th, and invites supporters to download DDoS tools and join the attack. The video’s poster claims that participants will be totally untraceable due to the massive number of people joining in.
In response, Anonymous-affiliated Twitter account @anonops tweeted, “Again we must say that we will not attack #Facebook! Again the mass media lie.”
A similar fake attack on Facebook was announced back in August of 2011, and also did not occur.
