Firefighters are currently battling a fire that broke out on the construction site of Mitchells Plain Hospital. Not a lot of details are known at this stage. EWN is reporting that emergency officials are on the scene, and that site managers are trying to keep the media away from taking pictures.

Spokesperson for Cape Town’s disaster risk management centre, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes, said that a total of 25 emergency vehicles were sent out, as well as a helicopter.

There are conflicting reports about what may have sparked the blaze at the Mitchells Plain Hospital construction site. Some witnesses said they heard a small explosion before flames erupted.
