The eNews Channel announced today that it will soon broadcast on the Sky digital satellite platform across the UK as part of an initiative to broaden the channel’s scope.
Saffas in the UK will no doubt be pleased to be getting another piece of home into their double-glazed lounges and bedrooms.
The broadcaster’s head of news, Patrick Conroy, said earlier:
This will give us access to over 10-million homes in the UK. What is really significant, though, is that we will have access to the South African expatriate community.
If they want news from home it’s just a click away. Due to our expansion, we will have to rebrand our service to make it relevant to viewers abroad and here at home.
It will be more of a brand tweak than an overhaul. Viewers need not be concerned. It will still be the same news service with the same content. The only difference will be our appearance.
The channel will also unveil its “new look” before the UK launch.
However, the channel will keep some of its existing offerings and will not change the appearance of its prime-time bulletin or its Afrikaans-language service on kykNET.
Those brands will remain as is. We are only rebranding the eNews channel.
Head of technical operations for eNews, Rob Brown, said staff were still conducting tests on the signal to the UK.
Once we are happy everything is running smoothly we’ll give it the green light. We’re getting close to finalising the test phase.
One less reason to feel left out then, innit.
