One of Andy Warhol’s most famous pop art pieces is his print of “32 Campbell Soup Cans”, depicting the brand of canned soup, Campbell’s. In celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the prints, which first appeared on display in 1962, the company is releasing a new limited edition can decorated in Warhol’s definitive style.
Warhol was known for having the soup for lunch every day for a period of 20 years, eventually inspiring an artwork. The Andy Warhol foundation has approved the initiative, and Campbell’s has confirmed that the soup will set you back a mere 75 cents a can, if you happen to live in the USA. Not bad for a collectable, but how long can you keep it on your shelf?
Four different versions of the cans will be available, which go on sale in Target stores in the US on Sunday.
