A Guatemalan judge has orded that anti-virus software mogul and wonderfully delightful meth head, John McAfee be released form custody. The judge ruled that McAfee had been detained illegally. McAfee was nicked by Guatemalan feds on charges that he had entered the country illegally from neighboring Belize.
The announcement was made on McAfee’s blog this morning.
In summary, from the Telegraph:
Mr McAfee was detained last week for immigration violations after he sneaked into Guatemala from neighbouring Belize. He had been on the run for weeks before that, avoiding Belizean police who want to question him in the fatal shooting in November of a US expatriate, Gregory Viant Faull, who lived near his home on a Belizean island.
Initial reports are that McAfee may be allowed to return to the United States. However, an extradition treaty signed between the USA and Belize in 2000 raises the likelihood of McAfee’s eventual return to Belize, should authorities there remain convinced that he has a case to answer.
Here’s McAfee getting arrested.
Here’s McAfee being quite impatient about having his court suit made, and stating his alibi on record.
