Well, we should have seen this coming. Those weird folk, otherwise known as the controversial Church of Scientology, are at it again. Technically, they’ve been at it for a while, but us mere mortals only learn things about them through time.
A new book – Church of Fear: Inside the Weird World of Scientology – to be published by British reporter John Sweeney – reveals that in the New Mexico desert, lies an “allegedly” secret Scientology lair.
Sweeney is famous for an outburst during a 2007 BBC documentary programme he was filming for the BBC’s Panorama series about Scientology.
Luckily for us, we have Google Earth, and there isn’t anything secretive about what the new lair looks like from above.
What’s below, well, that’s anyone’s guess really, but Sweeney claims it includes a huge message for extraterrestrials, and the crop circle-type design would be a naturally appealing design for those kinds of beings.
Other information comes from L Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.
Its vault houses the lectures of church founder L Ron Hubbard on gold discs locked in titanium caskets sealed with argon. The cathedral is H-bomb proof, protected by three 2 300kg stainless steel airlocks.
Sweeney continues that the design was created to guide special Scientologists “returning from space to find Mr. Hubbard’s works after a nuclear Armageddon wipes out humanity.”
Sweeney tried to visit the site, but was of course turned away.
We drive back to civilisation, wondering what kind of religion builds a space alien cathedral underground.
