Jackie Selebi Explains Why He Is Allowed To Go To The Shop

Former Head of Interpol and National Police Commissioner, Jackie Selebi was released from prison on medical parole in 2012 for suffering “a medical condition which is terminal, chronic, progressive and has deteriorated or reached an irreversible state.” His lawyers and doctors cited his failing kidneys as a key indicator that Selebi was on his death bed. Selebi has responded to widespread outrage following his being spotted at a mall over the weekend.

I am not bedridden because I am not sick. I am not under house arrest … surely I can go to buy Sunday newspapers … I did not know that this was a crime.
