You’ve heard of Zoosk, haven’t you? It’s one of the world’s most popular dating sites, and they’ve recently completed a 4,000-person survey, in order to determine what factors go into making the most alluring profile picture.

If you’re a woman, you’re better off taking your profile picture indoors. And we’re not making any jokes about kitchen-proximity, it’s science. Women attract 60% more attention if their profile picture is taken under a roof.

For men, it’s better to showcase your outdoorsy side. Men who have a profile picture of them outdoors have a 19% better hit rate than those men who don’t.

Full-body pictures do better for both sexes, earning whopping 203% more attention than, for example, shots from the waist up.

The results regarding selfies are quite interesting. Women receive an 4% boost in attention if they upload a selfie, but men who indulge in the art of the selfie see a drop of about 8%. It seems as if women respect men who get other people to take photos of them.

And lastly – don’t upload a  photo of you and a friend, or of you and a pet. Whether animal or human, you can expect the other thing in your photo to cut your popularity in half.

Also, if you’re going to use smiley faces, the least you could do is give the things a damn nose. The emoticon “:-)” will get you a 13 percent increase in replies, but “:)”  results in a mysterious 66 percent decline.

    Now you know.
