Residents of Los Feliz, a quiet neighbourhood in LA, must have been wondering why there were large queues outside a strip mall over the weekend. People stood in line for hours just to get their hands on a coffee from Dumb Starbucks.
News of the pop-up coffee store spread over social media, beckoning people from far and wide come to stand in the queue for sub par coffee. With the real Starbucks saying they had nothing to do with it, the mystery behind the pranksters increased the store’s popularity. Eventually, comedian Nathan Fielder, known for his parody show on Comedy Central, owned up for being the man behind it all. After his announcement the store was shut down by the LA Health Department. Fielder intends on opening another Dumb Starbucks in Brooklyn soon.
Fielder says as long as he making fun of the real store he is within his rights to use the parody logo. Starbucks are currently looking into the legality of Fielder’s store.
