With all the hullabaloo around 3D tech, Google has founded a project dedicated to producing a phone that has a human-scale understanding of space and motion, using 3D sensors. With it, you will be able to 3D map the terrain surrounding you.
Google’s Project Tango is able to track the 3D motion of the device while simultaneously mapping the environment. The phone takes over a quarter million 3D measurements per second, to achieve this. Remember that scene from ‘The Dark Knight’ where Bruce Wayne mapped a building using a smartphone? Well that shit just became a reality.
Google will be releasing 200 prototypes to selected developers in the hopes that the device will be used for things like aiding blind people, and not taking over Gotham.
Check out Project Tango’s site for more info, here.
