Retailer, American Apparel, is creating a stir with its latest campaign. The company, known for its somewhat controversial campaigns that have included placing pubic hair on mannequins and strange model choices, may have gone too far this time.
American Apparel’s new ad, seen below, features a bare breasted model, with the words “MADE IN BANGLADESH” failing to hide her nipples. The statement that accompanies the campaign explains that the model, Maks, is originally from Bangladesh. As a child, she and her family immigrated to California. It is also stated that the jeans she is wearing were made in the USA.
American Apparel are wagging their finger at other retailers than use sweatshops and child labour in countries like Bangladesh, to manufacture their products. American Apparel have openly stated in 2002, they are “sweatshop-free.”
