London looked similar to Beijing this week, covered in a haze of pollution. The air quality was deemed to have deteriorated to 10 on a 10-point-scale that measures air pollution. Here are some photos from 3 April, showing the scale of the pollution.
People who suffer from compromised immune systems, respiratory ailments like asthma, and the young and elderly would most likely be hit hard by the poor air quality. On Wednssday, the London Ambulance Service reported a 14% increase in emergency calls related to respiratory problems.
The poor air quality caused by dust particles from the Sahara Desert and pollution from Western Europe will hopefully start receding by the weekend.
