The saying “there’s an app for that” is really starting to apply to everything and anything.
A new app created by George Zouridakis, an engineering technology professor at the University of Houston, could potentially tell if you have cancer.
Did someone say “Nobel prize”?
The app uses a special magnifying lens called a dermoscope attachment to illuminate your skin in a certain way. Take a picture of the area and the app will provide a diagnosis in seconds. It has achieved an 85% accuracy rate so far, similar to that of dermatologists.
DermoScan, which has received a $400,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health, would be revolutionary on the consumer market, helping people to identify certain types of cancer without removing tissue.
