Everything You Want To Know About SA’s Massive R3 Billion Drug Bust [Images]

All the details as the case unfolds and forensic experts from around the country begin the hunt for a way to identify the kingpins of this international drug ring...

We reported yesterday on the biggest drug bust in history (in SA) that was made in Kloof, Durban earlier this week. As more details have emerged, the manhunt has begun for the king-pins of the international drug ring who have been producing and distributing the drugs. Here are the important details:

  • 3 men were arrested at the 2ha property – they are thought to be underlings in the hierarchy of the syndicate.
  • This bust – in addition to the previous busts in the last 6 months – have put a spotlight on Durban’s ports as weak points at the border. This is in line with the instruction from the presidency to shut down drug syndicates.
  • It is assumed that the 200 50kg bags of uncut heroin were to be shipped internationally before being sold on the streets.

  • The modifications to the house: the entire house was stripped down for storage purposes, the garage contained an industrial scale which had evidently been recently used, the squash court (yes, this was a super luxurious house) had been converted into a hi-tech lab with everything needed to manufacture the pure drug.

  • Additionally, the lab was fitted with a generator and supplied with borehole water so as not to raise suspicion when usage peaked, and was surrounded by trees which drowned out the noise of the generator and the smell of chemicals.

  •  The drugs found were in such a pure state that they would result in death if taken in that form.

We all wait with baited breath to see what else emerges from this high-profile bust and the international law enforcement community has said it will assist where possible and necessary.
