Rhino Poaching has become a massive issue at the forefront of our collective mind. New campaigns to protect these beautiful creatures and raise awareness of the tragedy that befalls them have erupted in the last year or so – and rightly so!
We are particularly proud of our diverse and beautiful wildlife here in South Africa and with urban sprawl ceaselessly growing it seems ever more pressing to conserve natural environments for our fauna to thrive. This is an especially big challenge for the bigger of the beloved animals, as they tend to need a LOT of space and management.
But we digress… Last year a total of 1004 Rhino’s were killed and this year is looking on target to beat that horrendous figure. News24 have reported that since January, 558 Rhino’s have been killed – the majority of which are still being poached from the Kruger Park.
It is quite sickening to think of the cruelty that it takes to kill such a treasured animal. More info on these stats can be found at News24.
