If anyone can relate to fearing someone might have overstated their level of education, it’s us South Africans. Does the name Hlaudi Motsoeneng ring a bell anyone, he of SABC infamy? You can take a little stroll down memory lane HERE.

Well what if your dearly beloved, the person you were going to spend the rest of your life with, told a few fibs about their level of education – deal breaker or a light slap on the wrists? This bride in India thought the former, as reported in Times of India:

The bride-to-be got suspicious of the groom’s educational qualification. Her cousins asked the groom to solve simple mathematical question, what is 15+6. The groom failed to give the correct answer and the girl refused to marry him…

The bride and her cousins received a shock when the groom said 15+6 is 17 instead of 21.

Now quite what level of education the groom fibbed about is unclear, but if that was the question that was put forward I’m guessing he wasn’t claiming a doctorate. The bride’s family was so angered by the betrayal that they informed the police, although a compromise was reached between the families before action was taken.

Let that be a lesson to us all that pre-wedding honesty, at least in matters where one can so easily be caught out, is certainly the best policy.
