If you’re a guest heading to the internationally acclaimed Londolozi Private Game Reserve you are probably hoping to see your fair share of wild chases and drama. This kind of drama, however, would not have been on the agenda.
Wade Williams, a 30-year-old employee who worked at the reserve in the financial department, attempted a brazen robbery this past weekend. This from Traveller24:
[He] threatened the lodge’s General Manager at gunpoint on Saturday evening, forcing him to disclose the company’s online banking PIN number.
Once he had obtained the information, Williams tied the GM up, kidnapped him in the company’s Land Rover Discovery 4 and dumped him in the bushes close to the lodge.
It is reported that Williams transferred millions of rands to his personal account, as well as nabbing around R100 000 in cash.
Rangers made a rather rare sighting, that of their GM tied up in the bushes, on Sunday morning. Williams was eventually apprehended in nearby Mbombela. Traveller24 again:
He was charged with two counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, as well as being in the possession of a stolen vehicle, a stolen firearm and ammunition…
Williams has since appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. The case has been postponed till 14 April.
You have to wonder how well thought out the whole plan was. Perhaps if it was a ranger, rather than someone in the financial department, they may have had more success covering their tracks.
