Sometimes when it rains it pours, which is something the people of Nepal can attest to after another powerful earthquake struck the eastern region of the country.
The earthquake, which measured in at 7.3 on the Richter scale, struck an area of Nepal close to the Chinese border and left another tale of destruction. This from CNN:
The epicenter of new earthquake was about 83 kilometers east of Kathmandu, the Nepali capital where many buildings were destroyed in the earlier quake.
“All the people are on the streets,” said Phurba Sherpa, a freelance journalist in Kathmandu. He said the quake felt “very big”…
In Sindupalchowk, an area north of the capital that was heavily hit by the previous quake, journalist Anil Thapa reported multiple landslides and fallen houses.
The death toll from the first quake currently stands at around the 8 000 mark, with rescue efforts having initially been hampered by a lack of access points and shortage of medical supplies.
It is not yet known whether there is further loss of life after the second quake. Spare a thought for the people of Nepal, one of the world’s most peaceful and unassuming countries.
