  • How The Poms Reacted To Australia’s Ashes Collapse

On the list of things that I find highly frustrating watching something epic happen in the world of sports, then trying to explain it to the foreign interns and unconcerned co-workers ranks right up there. Yesterday’s Ashes demolition was one such occasion but alas, it has done little to detract from the joy of the occasion.

As you can imagine after years of verbal and sporting abuse the Pommie press have been revelling in the turning of the tides, the shift starting during the iconic 2005 Ashes. So rapid was Australia’s demise yesterday, skittled for 60 in under 20 overs, that England still had time to go in and rattle off a lead of 214 at the close of play. Below are some of the better pack pages doing the rounds courtesy of the Daily Mail:

If that last one flew over your head it would be in reference to Stuard Broad’s ridiculous figures of 8-15. Just how bad a day was it for the Ozzies then? Check these stats below…

Then these pearlers from two of England’s more vocal former players on The Australian:

Former England captain Ian Botham: “It’s the sort of score you expect to see at the under-9s on the village green.”

Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott: “They batted like lemmings. It’s the poorest Australian batting performance I’ve seen in 50 years. I’ve never seen anything as bad.”

Somewhere out there a botox-riddled, fake-tanned Shane Warne is trying desperately to cover his tracks after posting this picture yesterday morning before play. Pay special attention to his words in the top right…

Will laughing at the Ozzies make Herschelle catch THAT catch off Steve Waugh in ’99? No, and it won’t help Lance Klusener or Allan Donald learn how to run between the wickets either. What it does do is bring a massive smile to many South African faces, along with some confused stares from these bloody interns.
