You Need To Get Up To Date With Burger King And McDonald’s Open Letters They’re Writing To Each Other

Burger Kings makes an effort to hold a ceasefire with McDonalds for the UN's International Day of Peace in September.

Once again, the annual granting of beauty pageant contestants’ wish of world peace will potentially happen on the 21 September. A campaign by the United Nations, International Day of Peace aims to have a, well, day of peace, and taking advantage of this, Burger King waved a white flag for a potential ‘cheesefire’ in an effort to stop the beef with McDonald’s.

It all began when Burger King ran full page ads in The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune, proposing a McWhopper – a hybrid burger consisting of half and half.

Along with the ad, Burger King created the best proposal. Basically, the proposal takes form in the McWhopper.com, beginning with two burgers on separate sides, and as you scroll down, the ingredients fall, combine and end up in a neatly packaged McWhopper burger. Delish.

Here’s the run down from Burger King’s side:

But what will go into the burger? Six parts MaccieD’s, six parts Burger King.

McDonald’s response, however, is somewhat poor – although they do make a good point:

Dear Burger King,

Inspiration for a good cause… great idea.

We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference.

We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you’ll join us in a meaningful global effort?

And every day, let’s acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war.

We’ll be in touch.

-Steve, McDonald’s CEO

P.S. A simple phone call will do next time.

If it does happen, will it only be the burger available? Maybe the competing burger chains can get their soft drinks of choice on board too – imagine, half Pepsi, half Coca Cola – that’s a real war.
