You probably haven’t heard of Danny K in a while. Me neither. But, upon some research, it seems the SAMA winning artist has just launched a new album – and he has also done something a lot cooler.

The SA pop sensation teamed up with kwaito musician Kabelo to build the foundations of SHOUT – an NPO founded by the duo in 2007 following the murder of Lucky Dube. The organisation aims to create awareness against crime and violence in our beloved country, and have been releasing highly collaborative songs to raise funds to help fight crime.

Their latest track and third of the series, SMILE, will be focusing on education.

All funds raised from the download of the new song will go towards the building of SHOUT S.E.E.D libraries across the country. So this track goes way beyond spreading smiles; it will open minds and broaden horizons as each download becomes a very real piece of a library, hope built one smile at a time for a smarter future generation.

The colourful SMILE music video was shot over three long days and features an incredible array of the country’s top musicians, celebrities and influencers. My personal favourites include Derek Watts showing off his yoga skills and Randall Abrahams attempting a smile.

Our creative partners Net#work BBDO through their non-profit MAL Foundation had an amazing library design initiative in place in the townships. By reaching young kids and encouraging them to work hard at getting an education, they will be better equipped to live a successful and crime-free life. This is why we have decided to use the funds raised from downloads of SMILE to build more libraries in primary schools across South Africa.

SMILE is available as a full track download. SMS ‘Smile’ to 40388 to donate R20 and get the track.
