Oh Gauteng, our friends up there in the highveld who take our abuse on the chin and only occasionally fight back with nasty words.

The truth is we envy you guys sometimes, like when it comes to trying to organise a get together. We are all very jealous of the prompt and yes/no responses you are met with – none of this Cape Town ‘ja I might be keen, let me know closer to the time’, it’s a count me in or a straight up no that arrives on a date before the jol has finished.

Now in amongst all that hustle and bustle, when you’re not chasing the strong Jozi rand and planning your next Cape Town holiday, you’re prone to treat yourselves to a little getaway somewhere closer to home. You know, the kind of place where you can be confident that something is fog and not smog.

And when you’re off on these jaunts wouldn’t it be lekker if you could spend less than R750 for two people per night? You could use the extra money to pay those e-tolls, just a thought…

Here’s our pick of the top five spots in Gauteng you can nip off to and not break the bank.
