To date, it is estimated that 324 lives have been saved by full-airframe parachute deployments and the latest success to be recorded on video involves a father and daughter duo who landed pretty safely just next to a single-storey building. Lucky lucky, hey.
The Cirrus parachute saved the duo’s life after their SR22 lost engine power over Long Island on Saturday. Once the plane touched ground, the pair casually climbed out and walked away unharmed. They were just eight miles away from their destination, Farmingdale’s Republic Airport.
You would think that when the plane bounced it would blow up or something, but it’s pretty amazing how it just lands tail-up making the deployment of the crew very easy. I mean, they are able to get out before the parachute even hits the ground.
I was disappointed there were no high-fives between the two, though.
This is the third incident to be caught on camera. The other two occurred last year January and November.
