It appears they do things a little differently over in China when you don’t perform at work, a point made palpably apparent by a new video doing the rounds.
Then again maybe this is what keeps the Investec team on their toes – don’t reach those target markers and it’s a paddle to the behind.
First up just take a gander at what we’re dealing with – pay special attention to the ‘thwack’ that stick makes when it connects:
Not really what we’re used to seeing, with more below from SCMP:
…a man with microphone asked why they had ranked last in the day’s training.
The eight, including four women, listed reasons such as “failing to make a personal breakthrough” and “inadequate team cohesiveness”.
With a thick stick in his hand, the man said “get your butts ready” and began to spank each of the eight in turn in front of other trainees.
After three rounds, a woman on the far right tried to cover her hip and the man berated her, saying, “take off your hand!”
The good news is that two executives from Zhangze Rural Commercial Bank have been suspended from work in the wake of the footage circulating, the bad news is that that wasn’t the only degradation taking place that day:
An unnamed member of staff told the Beijing Times that the spanking was only a part of the training that day and as another punishment 16 employees were forced to have their heads shaved.
Anyone have any similar workplace horror stories while we’re on it? You know we love calling out the big guns when they drop the ball, don’t be shy to send a little anonymous email our way (editor@2oceansvibe.com in case you’ve been snoozing).
Also, can we take a moment to consider the self-control it took not to use the term ‘spank bank’ once in this entire post?
