  • Oliver Stone Is Not Happy At All With Pokemon Go

Oliver Stone bravely took on Edward Snowden’s story, and while it is an honourable tale to tell – Stone’s Snowden is set for cinemas in September, watch HERE – Stone may have caught a case of paranoia (and you might have it, too, from Mr Robot).

You see, the film (Snowden) is about issues of surveillance, technology, and privacy – aspects that can affect everyone. To illustrate, Stone used Pokemon Go as an example while talking about the movie at Comi-Con:

    It’s not funny.

Yup, he said that. And it really isn’t funny – just ask the guys over at NEWORDER, they know what’s best when it comes to cybersecurity and Pokemon Go sure isn’t ideal – but it is funny when people tell you it isn’t funny.

Stone elaborated, saying the game represents the latest sign of the emerging “surveillance capitalism” – which sees citizens willingly surrender their privacy to corps who then turn it into cash dollar.

And he’s totally on point – even though we know he likes the green. His paranoia brightly shone through:

You’ll see a new form of frankly a robot society. It’s what they call totalitarianism.

Errr, of course, corporations have us wrapped around their pinky. But you can choose to live in perpetual fear of being monitored, or just accept it and limit your online activity. Get out the city and try avoid any airspace that drones can enter into. I rate living underground is your best bet.

But totalitarianism? Probably in a year or so at the rate the world is going. Pity.
