I guess when it’s not your day it’s not your day, and I think the entire watching world sympathises with French gymnast Samir Ait Said.

During Saturday’s qualifying Said landed badly during the vault section, and it’s pretty clear that his leg breaks almost immediately upon touching down.

…it soon became apparent that he would take no further part in the Rio Games when he was lifted onto a stretcher that had been brought into the arena.

After a delay of several minutes, he was eventually wheeled out and raised one arm to acknowledge the loud ovation he received from the crowd.

Here’s hoping the Frenchman makes a swift recovery and gets another go at Olympic Gold in four year’s time.
