  • There’s A Reason Cybercrime Is So Bad In SA – And It’s Kind Of Scary

Once you’re connected to the online world, it takes a huge effort to wean yourself away from it. Everything one does these days is somehow digitally connected, whether it’s banking, communicating, or even researching.

As the need to be connected rises, so does the levels of online fraud, digital crime, and corporate espionage.

However, falling behind in the whole scene is what cybercrime actually means in terms of the law. In South Africa, cybercrimes are yet to be identified, defined, and legislated as crimes under which individuals can be prosecuted.

Even if a person is arrested for hacking a system, there is no law for prosecution. Let that sink in for a second – frightening, right?

Given the scale of crimes that can be committed in cyberspace, this is not ideal. BD Live explains SA’s current situation:

The Cyber Crimes Bill of 2015, though still currently tied up in the participatory phases of the South African legislative process, aims to eliminate the challenge. Once passed into legislation, it will be possible to enforce laws specific to cybercrime through prosecution.

So what do we do in the mean time? Obviously, there’s only one solution: we have to protect ourselves.

Within cyber protection, the bare minimum in today’s digital environment is perimeter protection and endpoint protection. Although these two security measures complement each other, having one does not eliminate the need for the other.

Security and cybercrime consultants can be critical in finding efficient solutions for your business.

The title “specialist” is key and the right specialist can assist you in choosing your strategy and will make sure it is in line with your business requirements.

If you’re really freaking out now and need someone who is definitely a “specialist”, we got you.
