  • How Donatella Versace Made 2017 Her Year

Even without your fingers on the pulse of the fashion world, you have probably noticed that 2017 has been Versace’s year.

After the death of her brother 20 years ago, Donatella Versace found herself at the helm of the fashion house.

This year she seems to have made a point to make her success more visible, reports The Guardian:

She has designed a tribute collection inspired by Gianni’s archives, announced a scholarship in her brother’s name at Central Saint Martins and, in September, in a fashion coup for the ages, reunited Gianni’s supermodel crew – Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni and Claudia Schiffer – for a catwalk finale that melted the internet.

    You remember, right?

And next year is no different: Versace will be co-presenting the MET Gala with its apt “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme, and her brother’s assassination will be the topic of Ryan Murphy’s next American Crime Story tale.

Gianni Versace was 50 when he was shot outside his Miami home shortly before 9AM, an incident that has been pored over in countless articles, books and films since.

In a similar manner that The People v. O. J. Simpson addressed the role race played in that case, The Assassination of Gianni Versace will reportedly deal with homophobia in the Miami police department, which prevented the serial killer from being caught earlier.

After all, he had killed four men before he targeted Versace.

But if the story of Gianni Versace’s assassination doesn’t necessarily intrigue you, then the cast should at least win you over. Starring Edgar Ramirez as Versace, Penelope Cruz as his sister Donatella, Glee alum Darren Criss as Versace’s killer Andrew Cunanan and Ricky Martin as Versace’s lover, Antonio D’Amico, it’s set to be a winner.

And with that, feast your eyes on the trailer:

    Pretty intense.

To get into the Versace mood, you might as well splurge out on some sunglasses for the season. We know that this week the temperature here in the Mother City is ramping right up, so treat your eyes with a little respect and get a decent pair.

Sunglass Hut has a legit range of options, which you can find here, but I chose a few that exude the kind of opulence that only Versace can do:

Gorgeous, I say. You can see more sumptuousness right here.
