LEGO and Toy Trains – Check Out These Reassuringly Expensive Local Christmas Presents

I'm sure many of you are hoping for bitcoin in your stocking come December 25, but get a load of these local options that don't come cheap.

Boys and their toys, huh?

For some it’s the latest PlayStation, whilst for others it’s all about adding the best sand wedge to their golf bag.

Then you get the hobbyists who go big, and unusual, by collecting intricate items from brands such as LEGO or Marklin.

Although LEGO has long been associated with children, both brands are popular with adult collectors who preserve their condition with extreme care.

Now, after doing a little digging, we found two such collections up for grabs in SA that have recently been listed on Gumtree.

The first is a massive LEGO Technic collection of 40 models, which were only used for display purposes and never as toys. Along with building instruction booklets, each model has all its parts and the collection is valued at around R100 000.

Casual.

For everything, including a 140-litre storage bin and all the spare parts you will ever need, the Amanzimtoti-based seller wants R75 000.

He is also willing to sell models individually, and here’s a taste of what he has:

You can see a selection of other available models here.

Not your thing? Then how about a Marklin Digital train set? Marklin has been making model trains in Germany for 150 years and their products are considered state of the art.

Available for R65 000, it is a 12×2 metre layout with six tracks, special lighting and street scenes.

Of course, those are only two examples of the types of top-dollar listings found on Gumtree.

Then again, if you’re after a bargain this festive season, or are looking to flog something to free up some extra cash, you’ll want to start there too.

Get cracking here and good luck, friends.
