  • Yes, SMILF Means Exactly What You Think It Does [Video]

She’s smart, she’s sassy and she has a child – so yes, SMILF does means exactly what you’re thinking, but are too afraid to say out loud.

A very popular new show on Showmax this month, SMILF is just one of the many additions to the streaming TV service that gives you access to the best entertainment out there for just R99 per month, or free for DStv subscribers.

Every month, they are kind enough to send subscribers a full list of what’s being offered, and we chose a few of the best to share with you.

Although the name might conjure some negative, knee-jerk reactions, SMILF joins the growing list of series that get better with every episode you watch.

Here’s a synopsis of the show:

Bridgette Bird is a smart, scrappy, young single mom trying to navigate life in South Boston with an extremely unconventional family. She struggles to make ends meet, which leads her to impulsive and at times immature decisions. Above all, Bridgette wants to make a better life for her son.

SMILF takes on motherhood, co-parenting, and female sexuality through a raw and unfiltered lens. Don’t miss this semi-autobiographical half-hour comedy from the creative mind of Frankie Shaw, an original and fresh new female voice.

    Enter the trailer:

Not your cup of tea? Fine, how about a show that chronicles the adventures of getting stoned, then?

High Maintenance, another new addition to the Showmax line up, follows a New York pot dealer with a list of clients with “neuroses as diverse as the city, providing a glimpse into the private lives of customers – and how they light things up”.

    It’s pretty great:

    Still no?

If family drama is more your thing, you’re in luck. The first season of The Astronaut Wives Club, based on the book by Lily Koppel, will be streaming, too.

It chronicles the lives of the wives of the Mercury Seven astronauts that went on several manned space flights between May 1961 and May 1963:

    How’s that explosion? So deep.

Showmax has a number of ways for anyone to sign up, and you cancel any time you like with no strings attached.

If you’re an existing DStv subscriber you can add Showmax to your bouquet for FREE. For those of you who are a DStv Compact Plus or Compact customer, sign up and only pay R49 per month for a Showmax subscription.

And that’s how you get access to 35 000 of the best series, movies, kids’ shows and documentaries, with more added each and every week.

You can sign up for your free 14-day trial with Showmax HERE to browse their extensive collection of media.
