  • That Awkward Moment When You Realise Where Woolies Have Been Getting Their Meat From

And so the truth has come out.

If you are somewhat clued up about this and that, it doesn’t take much to realise that Woolworths’ self-branded food stuffs aren’t really their own creation.

In the Cape, their bakery goods are made by Compass Bakery, and now we know that nationwide, their processed meat is sourced from Enterprise Food supplies.

They just disguise it all with some fancy-ass packaging.

This truth bomb was dropped by Woolworths when they recalled a long list of products from the shelves, after it was discovered that an Enterprise meat factory in Polokwane was the source of the deadly listeriosis outbreak, reports Fin24:

“Woolworths has a team of food scientists and technologists who proactively manage food safety, in addition to our independent food safety testing and auditing, to prevent microbial contamination of food. This testing includes Listeria,” the retail company said on its Facebook page.

Woolworths then asked customers to return close to 35 different product items to stores for full refund, and the items on the list are rather revealing:

Items recalled include Waferthin chargrilled and smoked ham, Waferthin roasted and smoked chicken, salami sticks, a variety of viennas, gammon and assorted meat products.

    Not the Waferthin!

Here’s the full list of Woolies products being recalled:

First they came for the viennas, and then they came for the sliced ham.

That’s got to hurt, Woolies fans. Cue mass outrage across Constantia, and angry moms in activewear demanding refunds at their local outlet.

Of course, Pick n Pay and Shoprite also pulled products from their shelves, but Shoprite’s Housebrand, Ritebrand and Farmer’s Deli weren’t affected as Rainbow Chicken and Enterprise Foods are not the supplier.

    Clever.
